Opportunities for children and youth in the OFNC
The Macoun Field Club
For children age 8 and above, and young people up until the end of high school, the OFNC’s Macoun Field Club runs a Saturday program throughout the school year. Indoor meetings alternate with field trips weekend by weekend. There are no fees; membership is defined by participation. Macoun Club trips are usually too long and strenuous for small children.
For children too young for the Macoun Club . . .
Families of children under the age of 8 may take them on OFNC field trips. Trips that are expected to be especially suited to children are advertized under Coming Events as being either “kid friendly” or “oriented to all ages.”
The Ontario Nature Youth Summit
Each autumn, the OFNC sponsors two high-school students in the Ottawa/Gatineau area to attend a weekend Youth Summit in Orillia, Ontario, for free. The 2016 theme is Biodiversity and Environmental Leadership. Applications must have been received by mid-June.
