Description: In 1979-1983, Tony Gaston headed the Himachal Wildlife Project: an international teams of scientists carrying out ecological surveys in the front ranges of the Western Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh, India. These surveys led to the creation of the Great Himalayan National Park which, in 2013 achieved UNESCO World Heritage status. He will speak about the creation and development of the park in the context of rapid degradation of natural environments in the Western Himalayas.
