OFNC Digital Seminar

Friday January 8, 2021 from 7:00-8:30 pm

We will recall, from our own experiences, how nature was different 20, 40, 60, (more?) years ago.

We’ve all heard about biodiversity loss. However, for this zoom event, we will focus instead on our personal, specific memories.  It might help us resist the shifting baseline in how we gauge what is  ‘normal’ in nature… “every generation assumes that the diminished biological state is the norm.” (The Nature Conservancy 2007).  Participants will be asked to think about something of nature that they knew well earlier in their life, but that ‘something’ isn’t the same anymore. Participants will be invited to briefly share what they remember and how they feel about it. Participants may simply listen to the memory stories if they prefer.

I hope some people will share a personal memory from many decades ago. If you can’t participate on the zoom call, you may email your nature-memory story to Lynn at bigskies[at] xplornet.ca and I will read it to others on the call.

Registration: To participate on the zoom call, please register in advance to  get your Zoom link, by writing to Joan at: ljheyding [at] gmail.com.
