We have all likely tried Birding by Ear and some of us have likely been wafted off to sleep while reading books on moult or advanced morphological identification. But how many of us have tried using DNA to advance our hobby? Should we really dirty our purist field pursuits by bringing in molecular data to help resolve difficult questions? Does science matter at all when it comes to birding? We will wander around a diversity of topics as we explore the use of molecular data as they apply to our hobby. Should we have a stable checklist of birds of the world? Should we pack a poop scoop to collect DNA samples for vexing field identifications? This talk will be loaded with images of birds that Jeff has taken around the world so in addition to learning a bit about DNA, you will be introduced to some of the most spectacular members of our global fauna.
