Pileated Woodpeckers can be found in the Ottawa area all year round. Luckily we can enjoy seeing these lovely birds during our frosty winters. Take pleasure in watching your visitor.
We have had a huge hawk in our back yard cruising our bird feeder twice earlier this week and again this morning, sits on the fence.
We live in Queenswood Heights area of Orleans.
Thank you for your input. I’m sure the little birds are making themselves scarce. There are some possibilities as to the species but you might might want to research Cooper’s Hawk. They are common in this area and will visit feeders from time to time.
I have a piliated woodpecker at my feeder and on my tree. Is it usual to have them in the winter ?
