The 2025 plant sale is now over. Thanks to everyone who bought plants and made our sale a success again this year!

For the last 20 years, the FWG has been holding an annual sale of native plants that we grow from seeds collected at the garden and in the wild locally. We often donate seeds to the Ottawa Wildflower Seed Library and occasionally “borrow” seeds from it.

We germinate the seeds early – in February – in our building under grow lights. By late April, most are transplanted into bigger pots and put outside in our nursery area.

Since the COVID epidemic, the sale has been online. We publish a list of available plants in mid-May, take orders by email, payment by e-transfer, then let customers know their order is ready to pick up.

We grow approximately 80 species plus grasses. They include favourites, such as Prairie Smoke, Wild Geranium, and Cardinal Flower, and good pollinator plants, such as Wild Bergamot, Sneezeweed, and Flat-topped Aster. We always have a number of asters and goldenrods – a species for every habitat.

Every year, we try to add a few new species. In 2025, we had three pussytoes: Field, Parlin’s, and Howell’s. We also grew Bowman’t Root for the first time.

Although our sales period is limited to a few weeks, please feel free to ask questions about native plants and gardening for wildlife any time – fletcher@ofnc.ca
