Ephemeral Walk – Trillium Woods and Monk Experimental Trail

/Ephemeral Walk – Trillium Woods and Monk Experimental Trail

May 16, 2019 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Leader: Connie Clark

Meet: Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre, north east corner of parking lot, Richmond Road at Assaly Road, near Pizza Pizza

After months of snowy white landscape, our colour-starved spirits are treated to the Spring ephemeral flowers in the woods. For them, the race is on to soak up as much sunlight as possible before the tree canopy throws the forest into shade. Now we can hope to see Dutchman’s Breeches, Squirrel Corn, Wild Bleeding Heart, Bloodroot, Spring Beauty, Hepatica, Adder’s Tongue, Foam Flower, Bellwort, Wild Ginger, White Trilliums and Red Trilliums.

Rubber boots are essential – the trail is flooded in several spots.

Otherwise, the trails are flat. Sometimes mud holes will need to be circumvented. The mosquitoes have not hatched yet, so we can hope for a calm, leisurely stroll. The trip will be cancelled if it is raining in the morning.
