Ephemeral walk – Trillium Woods and Monk Experimental Trail

/Ephemeral walk – Trillium Woods and Monk Experimental Trail

May 13, 2018 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Leader: Connie Clark
Meet: Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre (northeast corner of parking lot, Richmond Road at Assaly Road, near Pizza Pizza)

After months of snowy white landscape, our colour-starved spirits are treated to the Spring ephemeral flowers in the woods. For them, the race is on to soak up as much sunlight as possible before the tree canopy throws the forest floor into shade. Now we can hope to see Dutchman’s Breeches, Squirrel Corn, Wild Bleeding Heart, Bloodroot, Spring Beauty, Hepaticas, Adder’s Tongue, Foam Flower, Bellwort, Wild Ginger, White Trilliums and Red Trilliums. The trails are flat. Sometimes paths have mud holes that need to be circumvented. The mosquitoes haven’t hatched yet, so we can hope for a calm, leisurely stroll. This trip will be cancelled if it is raining in the morning.

For those who would like to join the group at the trail head in Kanata instead of Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre near the Pizza Pizza: from March Road turn left onto Terry Fox Drive. Proceed .5 km. Turn left on Innovation Drive. Drive .6 km (past the Richcraft Recreation Complex Building). The rendezvous parking lot is on your right, across from 3000 Innovation Drive. The outside shelter is visible from the road.
Caution: Deer ticks are in this area. Boots are definitely recommended.
